How to care for your panels

To properly care for your silk dupioni, taffeta, linen, and organic cotton drapes we recommend following these simple guidelines. Using the basic care instructions below will ensure that your materials and panels will be beautiful and enjoyable for many years.

SILKS:
Cleaning:
All of our silks, Dupioni and Taffeta, are Dry Clean Only materials. We do not recommend machine washing or hand washing.

The best way to keep your drapes clean is to lightly vacuum them periodically. Use a hand held vacuum like a Dust Buster or an attachment for a canister style vacuum. Do not use you upright vacuum!

Wrinkles and Ironing:
If your panels are wrinkled, allow them to hang for a few days as most of the creases will usually disappear naturally. If you need to press the panels,  use an iron on a low heat setting and press on a soft, cloth-covered ironing board. Avoid using water or steam as there is a risk of water spotting.

Water:
Avoid getting any water on the silks as it will leave a permanent water spot on Taffeta and Dupioni silks.

Sunlight:
Silks are naturally susceptible to damage from UV light, this is why ALL of our panels are fully lined as standard. Our standard lining will help protect your silks from moderate UV exposure. If your window receives heavy sunlight or if you live in the sunbelt (TX, FL, AZ, NM, CA) you should consider using a heavier lining. See our Linings Page for details.

LINENS:
Cleaning:
Linens are Dry Clean Only materials. We do not recommend machine washing or hand washing.

Wrinkles and Ironing:
Linens do wrinkle easily and when you receive your panels they may require pressing. You can iron them with or without steam on the linen temperature setting (medium-high). Once the panels are pressed they will remain wrinkle free.

Water:
Water will not damage or leave marks on the linens however if you saturate the material it may shrink as it dries - this is why we recommend Dry Cleaning. Small spots may be washed by hand, but please test in an inconspicuous spot before trying on the main body of the panel.

Sunlight:
Linens do not require special protection from sunlight.

ORGANIC COTTONS:
Cleaning:
The best way to keep your drapes clean is to lightly vacuum them periodically. Use a hand held vacuum like a Dust Buster or an attachment for a canister style vacuum.

You may wash the panels using COLD water and an eco-friendly detergent, however the panels WILL SHRINK between 3-6%. Line dry. Our recommendation is to simply keep dust off of the panels as noted above and spot clean as needed.
WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY SHRINKAGE OR OTHER DAMAGE THAT WASHING THE PANELS CAUSES. DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Water:
Water and a gentle eco-friendly detergent can be used to spot clean the panels, however if you saturate the material it may shrink as it dries. Please test in an inconspicuous spot before trying on the main body of the panel.

Dry Cleaning:
Yes, you can dry clean the panels however you will be defeating the purpose of going organic! Do not be misled by “Organic Dry Cleaning” the chemical used is still quite toxic.

Wrinkles and Ironing:
You can iron the panels with or without steam on the cotton temperature setting (medium).

Sunlight:
All printed materials will fade (organic or otherwise). Darker colors will show fading more noticeably than lighter colors. If your window receives heavy sunlight or if you live in the sunbelt (TX, FL, AZ, NM, CA) we recommend using both the organic lining and organic flannel interlining for protection.
